The sun highlights the hair but it takes time. You would need to be in the sun, by the beach, getting into the water and letting your hair to dry by the sun everyday for at least a month, until you could see some results. But doing this also dries your hair and too much sun can cause damage to your skin.
Reply:yer it does, my hair is naturally dark brown but in summer when i go to the beach everyday my hair goes light brown and has blonde streaks in it
Reply:what it actually does is the sun takes away the pigment in your hair. if you do it long enough, it will damage your hair (make them dry and eventually make them split).

People who have dirty blonde hair will be blonder and people with darker hair (brown or black) will get redder
Reply:it depends on how dark your hair is, mine is really dark but there are some strands that will get a little lighter so when fall comes, i have dakr hair and lighter brown pieces.

you can use Sun In which is a spray and it helps the sun lighten your hair
